$950 raised so far,
First off, thank-you ever so kindly for checking out the global solidarity challenge!
I am currently working with a local organization called Equality for Growth (EfG) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; feeling so blessed everyday to have been given this opportunity to be a part of the VIDEA IYIP program!
EfG focuses on providing rights awareness, legal services and economic empowerment education to women market traders and works to promote women leadership and lobbying power to create sustainable change in the informal sector.
For my GSC I will be attempting to, at the smallest level, relate to one of the daily struggles market traders face everyday- POOR WORKING ENVIRONMENT.
The markets and streets where informal sector traders spend countless hours selling their goods are characterized by poor infrastructure, overcrowding, poor sanitation and accumulated trash.
To join in the uncomfortable and strenuous conditions women traders work under everyday, I will be giving up my spacious office complete with a cushy chair, desk and celling fan to work on the ground in a confined tight space for a full work week.
Feel free to reach out to myself or VIDEA for more information on supporting the organization and its amazing partners.
And if you are interested in learning about why I joined Team Gender, other than the fact that my roomie happens to be the team lead, you can find my divulgation on gender equality here: https://jenellekatrineindar.wordpress.com/2016/05/23/airing-out-my-dirty-laundry-questioning-what-gender-equality-really-means/
Thanks so much, stay golden!
